3flection – Hooked

Another artist who sent me a submission via e-mail, I really enjoy this one. There’s a pretty deep message in there about big-oil. Here’s the press release they sent:

3flection and F5 Entertainment would like to send you their new politically-charged music video: “Hooked.”   “Hooked” is a hip hop video that makes a major statement against “Big Oil” and American oil consumption using the analogy of a violent drug addict that is ruining not only his own life, but the lives of others around him.  Filmed in St. Paul MN, the video is a gritty representation of an issue that the artists feel is plaguing the country.   The track is produced by hit-maker Sean Divine, and is an entry for his video contest.

3flection is a Wisconsin transplant who now calls the booming Twin Cities hip hop scene his own.  His thought-provoking and honest lyrical style draws comparisons to artists such as Atmosphere, Macklemore, and Grieves, and his high energy performances have been garnering him plenty attention over the past year.   3flection’s latest project, “The Best Intentions EP” was released for free in March 2012, and he is preparing to release a new solo project entitled “Doses of Reality” this summer.

F5 Entertainment is an independent video production company located in Eau Claire, WI.  The company brings Hollywood style video to the Midwest, and their work has not gone unnoticed: the last three F5-produced videos have surpassed 40,000 views.

This video has surpassed 626,000. Watch it below:

You can download the song “Hooked” at 3flection’s soundcloud page, and download his previous albums for free via his website. Also you can follow him on Facebook or Twitter to stay updated. You can watch more of F5’s videos via their website, and follow them on facebook or twitter.

The Lazarus Plan – “Speak up no (Everyone always leaves)”

My homie Erik aka DJ Arkitekt from The Lazarus Plan just gave the world a taste of his album featuring the new rapper in the group Phantom. This song is fantastic because it tells a story. The story is a touching one about suffering with depression. If you know anyone suffering, much like DJ Arkitekt would say, reach out and help. Anyone can make a difference.

You can watch the video here:

You can keep up with The Lazarus Plan on their Tumblr

Stayed tuned for their debut EP, coming out on May 20th 2011. They also will be having a release party at the Depot in Hopkins

Atmosphere – The Family Sign

So being a huge midwest based hip-hop fan, I follow the scene pretty closely. Many of you have probably already heard of Atmosphere’s new album set to release April 12th, 2011, so I’m a little late on the subject. They just dropped their first single from the album called “Just for show” on the Current last night, and seeing as the Current is so awesome when it comes to local music and it’s dedicated fans, they’ve got the single online streaming to listen to for the next week. You can listen to that here. Along with the single they’ve release album artwork:

They also made a press release for the media:

Atmosphere returns with their 7th official studio album and the newest addition to their unparalleled body of work. The Family Sign comes from a place well refined and firmly planted, from a universal perspective. It’s about being okay with losing friends and strengthening your bonds with others, celebrating the person who’s been the most positive in your life, your kids, your homies, leaving the people you need to behind, and bringing the ones you love with you. It’s about your family, your time and the time you have with them. It’s about living and dying. It’s the truth about family, that it comes from loyalty as much as biology. It’s about breaking down your perceptions of family and really appreciating the people who’ve made you who you are and continue doing so.

The Family Sign is Atmosphere’s most personal and intimate album yet; it involves and engages the listener like never before. Slug’s signature voice weaves in and out of Ant’s ASR-born production, Nate Collis’ bluesy guitar riffs and the sound of Erick Anderson’s unmistakable keys giving The Family Sign a fresh, unique edge without sacrificing Atmosphere’s signature sound. Join the Family April 12th, 2011.

Midtown Livin’ – Illuminous 3

First and foremost let me say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to King Karnov whom produced this gritty, real life track. The group Illuminous 3 released this debut video for their single “Midtown Livin'” from their LP “Thrift Stores and LP’s” which you can download here. River Life Media did a great job capturing the feeling of this song and transforming it into a video, peep it right here:

Sn0wta Ent.

Usually not huge into club-esque music but gotta say, love this track. “Poppin’ Bottles 2011” from Sn0wta Ent. ft. Marvell, Chuck, Johnny, Aaron, Jake and Corey was done right. You can tell they had fun making this song and it’s fun to listen to. Shout out to Sn0wta Ent!
